In the short prequel to Countermeasure, love is the utmost cardinal emotion and shines brightly as Conor and Maeve Brennan struggle with a life changing decision. In this glimpse into the hearts of the Brennans, you will see the strength of a love unlike any other–a love that transcends right and wrong. A love that remains unchallenged to this day.
Countermeasure: Bytes of Life is a tie-in series to the Countermeasure Series novels. This new series of shorts gives the readers glimpses into the day-to-day life of the Countermeasure characters.
The main novels in the Countermeasure Series are action-packed plot-driven stories, while the short stories in the Bytes of Life Series are character-driven and a way to develop the characters as the main series moves forward. Please be advised that ALL short stories in this series contain EROTIC material. They are NOT recommended for younger audience. Although some of the events that take place in the short stories might be referenced in the novels and vice-versa, the short stories are not compulsory for the understanding of the series. They enhance the experience.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that I truly enjoy the Countermeasure Series, and these short Bytes of Life extras are no exception. Uncharted spends 48 hours in the life of Trevor’s parents, Conor and Maeve. Written as a prequel to the Countermeasure series, but actually released after both of the full length stories, this Byte holds a special poignancy for those who are familiar with the series and the characters.
While setting the stage for the underlying personal mystery that threads through Trevor’s life, Tim Gerard Reynolds brings the characters to life with his mellifluous delivery and that special “something” that provides added emotional impact to the character’s voices. With small inflection and tonal changes, beautiful enunciation and that ‘touch of Eire in his voice, this short comes alive, and will bring reader’s familiar with the series to tears.
This is a lovely addition to the series, as an introduction the sense of characterization and emotional honesty that these authors bring: and wrap it all up neatly in a mystery. What more could you possibly want? A few more hours to listen to the rest of the series, or a weekend off to read the entire thing!
I was provided an audiobook copy from the authors for purpose of honest review for the Heard Word at I am, Indeed. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
About the Authors
Writing had touched Chris Almeida’s and Cecilia Aubrey’s lives in different ways through the years but had never taken flight. It was in 2010, when Chris and Cecilia met and began role-playing online as a hobby, that writing placed itself front and center in their lives.
Chris and Cecilia have since chosen to release all their titles independently. They have several short stories and two novels published under their own label, Éire Publishing, and are vocal supporters of independent publishing done right. They are currently working on the third novel in their series. Through all the chaos and laughter, they still hold true to their roots, bringing their favorite role-play characters and stories to life.
