Sharing the love – that is what book blogging is all about.
Today (and through 15 July) Fae Books is holding a giveaway – celebrating the 3000 Like milestone with lots of prizes to win. Be sure to check THIS POST for your chance to enter and win….
Then – here on my blog – I am offering one winner the chance at a kindle copy of Strings: Hard Rock Harlots #1 by Kendall Grey (gifted through Amazon). Now – this is an erotica title, so you must be 18+ to enter.. and title will be gifted through Amazon US.
Those of you who wonder why this title was chosen – there are several “reviewers” who have done little but copy and paste a since-deleted blog post where the author was clearly poking fun at some marketing techniques and approaches, not to mention the ever-present “I am wonderful” crowd. Satire. Learn the meaning, please. Not only are these not reviews, the so called reviewers are bullying the author: a person who has never been anything but kind and generous to her readers, to her supporters and even to her critics. This is an author who uses her earnings to send kids who wouldn’t be able to afford it to camp, where they can learn and explore and grow. It is shameful behavior – and shows the “name” review sites that book bloggers are less than professional. While that may be true for some, it certainly isn’t for those of us who are more interested in finding the next good read than we are the plagiarized words on some bully pulpit on the internet.

About the Book:
WARNING: STRINGS is not suitable for slut shamers, uptight stone throwers, Holier-Than-Thou prudes, humorless virgins, persons with chronic neck or back pain, pearl-clutching bitties, those who disparage crude humor or vulgarity in their many forms, closed-minded people with sticks up their asses, or anyone under the age of 18. The vile, base language and shocking, unholy sexual acts contained herein are not condoned by anyone with a lick of sense and should certainly not be reproduced without proper training and protection. The potty-mouthed and perpetually horny “heroine” (the term is used loosely) of this book does not resemble a normal, well-adjusted, or remotely believable person in any way, shape, or form. The author acknowledges that the characters in this book are shallow and two-dimensional; the plot is both ridiculous and insipid. She makes no apologies for any of it.

Free-spirited musician Letty Dillinger adheres to a strict, “no strings attached” policy when it comes to men. After a wild night of unabashed sex in a fancy hotel room, she never expects to see the adventurous stud she dubs “Shades” again. When her all-girl rock trio books a tour at the last minute as the opening act for their archenemies, Letty’s shocked to discover she knows the competition’s new lead singer. Intimately. Shades is no longer a one-night stand. Now he’s the guy she has to one-up on stage every night for the sake of her career.
Sharing close quarters on a bus with her sexy nemesis and his bad-boy buddies puts Letty’s Golden Rule to the test. On this tour, guitar strings aren’t the only things being played. And when heartstrings are pulled too hard, they’re bound to snap sooner or later.
First – take a look at the Warning – she isn’t kidding. Then, look deeper – and see the lines “potty-mouthed and perpetually horny “heroine” (the term is used loosely) of this book does not resemble a normal, well-adjusted, or remotely believable person in any way, shape, or form. The author acknowledges that the characters in this book are shallow and two-dimensional; the plot is both ridiculous and insipid.” Those are all that you need to just sit back, read and enjoy the clever storyline, that while holding no pretention to being realistic in any manner, is strikingly accurate in some aspects.
I adored Letty: for as totally troubled as she was – she went full on for her passions of the moment and for her dream of being a full-time rock and roll star. Her inventive use of several combinations of anatomical slang, swears and just a no-holds-barred approach to saying what she means is at first shocking, and then morphs into a surprisingly honest detailing of things that many of us may think, even if we don’t say them.
Her snobbish approach to music that is not “classic” rock, and the struggles of an all-female band in a very male dominated industry are well defined and detailed, and all too often truth. The burgeoning romance between her and “Shades” is cleverly done, with that magnetic attraction that fuels some risqué sex. Fans of reading of sexual acts that they would never attempt will love the variety and frequency here.
I was not looking for a literary masterpiece, but Grey writes a beautiful scene, full of humor and clear emotion that provides a compelling reason to read on. Did I expect to find a book that will be considered a “classic’ in years to come? No. But, not surprisingly, with this author’s skill, I did find a read that was inventive, unique and funny, with the ability to engage and entertain without pretension or excuse.
I purchased a copy of the book for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
